World tourism flows in 2011

In 2011, 983 million international tourist arrivals were recorded globally, which is 43 million more than the arrivals recoded in 2010, i.e. an increase of 4.6%.

This increase is due to the positive results noted in most of the regions throughout the year. Specifically, the highest increase in the number of international tourist arrivals (+6.2%) was recorded in Europe, followed by Asia (+6.1%), America (+3.9%) and Africa (+0.4%). The only region that presented a decline throughout the year (-7%) was the Middle East.
